I am honored to have the strong support and confidence of Missouri’s agriculture community. Growing up on a small farm, and later starting and running a cattle farm, I know the hard work Missouri farm families put in day in and day out to feed our country and the world and fuel our state’s agricultural economy. It was on the farm where I first learned the value of hard work, being a good neighbor and being a good steward of the land. These values have always stayed with me and I know anything is possible if you work hard. Thank you to all Missouri farmers for the work you do to make our state’s leading industry a success. #mogov #mikeworks #team57

It’s been eighteen years since the 9/11 attacks, but it doesn’t seem that long ago.

The 9/11 attacks are still deeply felt by those mourning the death of loved ones. This was an attack on who we are as a country. They attacked us because we stand for freedom and democracy - a place where everyone has the opportunity to work hard and achieve the American Dream regardless of their background or where they came from.

In the midst of the horror of that day our fellow citizens showed the world we were united as a nation and displayed the best of America.

First responders valiantly ran into the Twin Towers while everyone else was running out. Many of them never made it out.

Families, friends, neighbors, churches, and civic groups rallied to help the victims and support the families.

The sense of community and a unified America was felt across our country after the 9/11 attacks. People proudly displayed American flags and the sense of patriotism and love of country was everywhere. A lot has changed since then…

You know... those born on or around 9/11 are turning 18 this year. That means they are now eligible to enlist in America’s armed forces on their own. Some of them will sign up to serve and protect our country as I did when I was a young man swearing an oath to protect and defend our Constitution when I enlisted in the United States Army.

Serving my country in uniform deepened my respect for our values… our freedoms… and the military men and women who have served, and currently are serving, this great country.

It was in the Army that I first truly understood the importance of the Pledge of Allegiance and the Flag of the United States of America.

But more importantly, I realized how important that flag was for the men and women that served before me, and the sacrifices they made for all of us here today.

On 9/11 we say “never forget.” We should never forget that America is a special place. Some around the world will always hate America because of who we are. It’s because they want to change who we are. We can never forget that we live in the greatest country in the world and we should never forget the men and women in uniform who defend us every day.
